§ 12b · The Allocation · LifeLog · FR

A timeline from McCarthy's 1961 public-utility remark to Sam Altman's 2026 quite terrible, with the last entry in red.

Your memory, a terrible allocation.

“From a global allocation perspective, actually, it’s quite terrible to have everybody have a bunch of the world’s limited supply of DRAM sitting in their own computer.” That was OpenAI’s chief executive in October 2026.

Memory that sits idle in your computer is memory nobody else reads. At maximum utilization the same work runs on someone else’s hardware, with your prompts and files passing through it.

If your computer’s memory moves to the data centre, the record of your life moves with it.
